 The safety of playground equipment and its suitability for use depends on regular inspections and maintenance. Inadequate maintenance of equipment can lead to injuries. Did you know that falls from playground equipment are the largest hazard associated with playground use? The Public Playground Safety Handbook (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Publication #325) provides safety information and guidelines for public playground equipment.  

  ASTM International has developed voluntary technical manufacturing standards for public use playground equipment, surfacing, and fencing. These standards are developed to help manufacturers produce the safest equipment possible. When purchasing playground equipment and surfacing, documentation should be obtained.
